FAQs
UF EDGE stands for Electronic Delivery of Gator Engineering. It is the distance learning program of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida which offers online engineering master’s degrees, certificates, and professional development program to students worldwide with complete online delivery of all course lectures and materials.
- EDGE classes are asynchronous and do not require live attendance.
Certificate programs are an excellent way to expand or refresh some of your engineering skills in a given area if you do not desire a full graduate degree. They are shorter programs consisting of three to five courses.
Course lectures are captured daily from live lecture classrooms and are posted online the same day (in most cases) in both streaming and downloadable formats for you to watch at your job, at home, or while you travel. All course assignments are submitted and returned electronically.
UF EDGE does NOT process admission applications or make individual admission decisions. Any questions regarding application procedures should be addressed to the department to which you wish to apply. For a complete list of participating departments in the UF EDGE program and the department’s contact list, please click here.
No – since the classes you are completing are the exact same courses our on-campus graduate students take, your degree earned is the exact same degree as our on-campus students, with absolutely no mention of “distance learning” on your diploma or transcript.
You need to login to e-Learning to access all the materials including recorded course lectures as well as the assignments.
Course lectures are captured daily from live lecture classrooms and are posted online the same day (in most cases) in an interoperable format both for download or immediate playback.
At this time, the UF EDGE program only offers non-thesis master’s degree programs.
You will need to take ten courses (30 credit hours of coursework) to complete a master’s degree.
Master’s degrees can be completed in as little as 24 months. You are free to take as many or as few courses as your schedule permits each semester.
You can still begin taking classes by registering as a ‘non-degree seeking’ student for your first semester. If you meet admission criteria for the master’s degree program and earn a B or better in your non-degree seeking status course(s), you can transfer them in (pending departmental approval) to count towards your degree program. You should also check with your department to see what their policy is on transfer of credits from this status.
Yes, you can take any UF EDGE online course as an individual class without being part of a degree or certificate program. This can be done as a non-degree seeking student.
The non-degree seeking status is only approved for one semester; therefore, students who wish to continue taking courses as non-degree seeking must apply each semester.
You can complete up to three qualifying courses as a non-degree seeking student and have them later transferred (pending departmental approval) to count towards your 10-course online master’s degree if you choose to pursue the degree option.
Yes, pending departmental approval and as long as you receive the appropriate grades. You should also check with your department to see what their policy is on transfer of credits from this status. It is your responsibility to make sure that your courses will transfer.
